An Etch From The Alexander Palace : The Blood Stains Of The Romanov.

The assassination of the Russian royalties, The Romanovs was both tragic and mysterious. The execution done by the Bolsheviks on the night of 16th/17th July 1918 marked the bloody tragedy in the canvas of Russian history. Like I said, I am a history freak; thus I want to share some information I know pertaining about the Russian royalties dynasty. Perhaps, this entry will nurture interest amongst the readers to wanting to know more about history, particularly this Russian history.

Tsar Nicholas II of Russia was the last emperor of Russia. He was the first cousin to King George V of United Kingdom (the European royal dynasties were all interrelated with each other by royal marriage). Tsar Nicholas II’s mother was the Empress Dowager Marie (born as Princess Dagmar of Denmark) & she was the sister of Queen Alexandra of United Kingdom (Queen Mother to King George V). His marriage to his cousin, Princess Alix of Hesse (who then adopted a Russian name to make herself more appealing to the Russian public : Alexandra Feodorovna) extended the carriage of family disease of haemophilia.

The European Royalties were well-known for being carriers and some were inflicted with haemophilia and this was uprooted way from the lineage initiated by the famous Queen Victoria . Thus, the disease is well known as the “Royal Disease.” The disease prevents the blood of the inflicted persons from clot and fatally dangerous.

Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna had 5 children : Grand Duchess Olga Nicholaevna, Grand Duchess Tatiana Nicholaevna, Grand Duchess Maria Nicholaevna, Grand Duchess Anastasia Nicholaevna and Tsarevich Alexei Nicholaevich. The family was all shot to death by the Bolsheviks in order to topple the reigning dynasty of Russian monarchy. Nonetheless, rumors began to spread that Anastasia managed to escape the murder and this spun numerous impostors attempt to present themselves as masqueraded Anastasia to Empress Dowager Marie who managed to escape the tragedy.

The famous impostor would be Anna Anderson, a woman with lunacy record and famously claimed that she was the Grand Duchess Anastasia Nicholaevna. Nevertheless, DNA research in the 1990s proved that Anna Anderson was NOT Anastasia and also proved that Anastasia was amongst her family members (shot to death)- based from the DNA research done from the skeleton-and-bones remnants from the murder.

Besides The Romanovs, The Russian royalties’ lives were also revolved around a person by the name of Rasputin. He was claimed to be a “staret” or a prophet with mythical power to heal sick people. Since the royal family were the carriers of haemophilia and Tsarevich Alexei Nicholaevich was one of those got inflicted and exhibited the symptoms. Many physicians and medical practitioners were summoned to the palace but the health proved to no avail until Rasputin came to the palace and by using some prophetic chants, coincidentally he managed to cure the little Tsarevich. This incident make the Tsarina Alexandra trusted Rasputin so much and regarded him as one of the monarch family. This led to some power abuse by Rasputin.

Honestly, I am an empathic person. My imagination ran wild when I read about the royal family being awakened harshly at around 2.00 a.m. in the morning and were whisked to a room to be killed! First, Tsar Nicholas was shot multiply to death on the chest; the son Tsarevich Alexei was shot AT THE HEAD (since he was a haemophiliac, there was no way he could be alive from that!) ; the 4 princesses were first shot but were unscathed due to jeweleries worn were shielding them. They then were rumored to be stabbed to death! OH MY GOD, imagine if you were in the situation!

On whole for me, the tragedy is quite intriguing. I love history and to thread the genealogical records is a favorite past-time as well as enriching my knowledge. Besides that, history also teaches us to appreciate what we have and learned from the mistakes our forefathers did.
