My birthday passed nearly a fortnight ago, but to learn that the community in school still make efforts to commemorate that in their very own small, unique ways are just so flabbergastingly touching, I say. To have a small Pot Luck done and also a class that you don’t teach anymore after the end of March (due to reshuffling) threw a “makan-makan” to commemorate your birthday?? That is just “Awww…so sweet!”

Last Thursday, Kak Lin messaged me saying that The Bevy of Beauties (Hahahah!) sisters were planning to do a surprise Pot Luck for Kak Aireen’s birthday. So, I just chipped-in and bought drinks and ground nuts (I mean, I don’t cook anything!) and the Potato chips. So, on Friday during recess time, we went to Computer Lab (as Kak Aireen is the custodian of Computer Lab). And as cliche as it was, we sang Happy Birthday song…. BUT, suddenly my name was included! I was like….WHOA??? LOL! The sisters included the Pot Luck for me as well…. I even got a present! A new office attire and a neck -tie! Aww….that is so sweet…Thanks to my colleague-sisters such as Kak Lin, Kak Adda, Kak Ida & Kak Sarah…Huhuhu…… so touched…. *sniff*
The delicacies of Pot Luck! And there was even home-cooked Nasik Lemak by Kak Ida! LMAO! (,”) Delicious!
FOCUS while savouring food. Kak Lin, Kak Ida & Kak Adda!
Anyway, a pupil in 4 Creative which is Dayini had been telling me that the class 4 Creative would be organizing a sort of “makan-makan” on that Friday, too. I thought it must have been to commemorate someone’s birthday (perhaps the Class Teacher or any pupils); so as a guest, I will make my appearance a bit later as my schedule of classes are PACKED and HECTIC on Fridays! Furthermore, Dayini asked me to come after recess; so I thought it would be perfect.
The carrot cake that Kak Adda bought. I didn’t have the chance to taste it, though…
At 10.35 a.m, the recess time ended, and I hurriedly went to my class 5 Brilliant as I have 3 slots of periods with them. I was thinking of squeezing time to pay 4 Creative a visit later on. BUT, I was shocked to see suddenly Dayini came with her friend bringing a plate of fried mee! I told them that I was just about to visit 4 Creative; they told me it was already OVER! I was a bit flabbergasted because Dayini told me to come after recess; so there was this miscommunication. Still, I asked them for whom did that “makan-makan” was to commemorate? I WAS SHOCKED knowing that IT WAS FOR ME!!!! I was a bit mortified, stupefied and taken aback! That was because I just taught 4 Creative for like 2 months and usually it wasn’t a ripe time to have a full-bonding atmosphere with pupils as it can be said as a pre-mature stage!
Kak Lin, Kak Ida, Kak Adda & Me… Kak Aireen took the photograph whilst Kak Sarah was M.I.A. LOL!
BUT yeah, it happened and they actually threw that “makan-makan” for me! After the girls left, I was a bit flooded with guilt; I mean it wasn’t MY FAULT because I didn’t know that it was for me; and Dayini told me to come after recess; but the idea of that event was done just to commemorate ME and I didn’t turn up EARLIER make me fumed with baseless guilt! So, after I gave 5 Brilliant some works to do, I went out to find 4 Creative but they were gone!
Thanks so much!
I climbed to the School Library and managed to find them. Aww, Dayini secluded herself in a corner and read a book to hide her blotchy eyes. She was confining herself from crying. So, I called her and gave a sort of appreciation and recognition words and conveyed my deepest acknowledgement for their warm thoughts to everyone in the class.

So, I guess tomorrow I will give the class a “Thank You” card just to convey my appreciation to them. Honestly, it felt so nice when people appreciate you; especially when pupils do that. It is a token of recognition of them to you that you have somehow touch their hearts despite the stern words and penalties in the names of exercising disciplines whenever they commit wrongdoings! (Hahahaa).
I am just thankful to ALLAH SWT for giving me the chance to be an educator. Alhamdulillah.
