Yes! I am movies aficionado; a freak you may say. Last Tuesday, managed to catch the latest flick starring Bruce Willis as the main character. What’s up with the old heroes coming back? Well, that proves they are still hot commodities in action genre. I guess nobody beats the old schools! This is the era where Stallone, Schwarzenegger (post-California Governor era) & Willis rises back! Yeeha!
Bruce Willis is synonymous with the “Die Hard” franchise so a ‘Die Hard’ film without him will be meaningless. Therefore, this latest installment of ‘Die Hard’ franchise which is named “A Good Day To Die Hard” had Willis starring as policeman who went to Moscow, Russia to save his son (Jai Courtney) from the prison; little did he knew his son was actually a spy for America! Of course, the storyline is a cliche American propaganda of which America will cleverly outwit Russia and we all are tired with this Hollywood out-of-idea thing; but hey, the real reason is to see Willis rocked the film and he did! He still look naturally good in comparison to Stallone (kinda unnatural buffy figure) and Schwarzenegger (not really an action hero material-on-facade no more; only relying on his remaining Hollywood Superpower aura).
Bruce Willis still rocks the house. Old dawg rules!
Apart from Bruce Willis, you’ve gotta praise Jai Courtney for being on par with the legend when they shared the screen. Seemed like Jai Courtney is beginning to dominate the action genre and he had a few high-profile films in between last year and this year! Not bad for an Aussie who burst into Hollywood via the X-rated gladiator TV series – “Spartacus”, no? Stay tuned, Jai Courtney is the latest “It” Guy of Hollywood! On whole, I give 3.5 stars outta 5!
From X-rated TV series “Spartacus” to strings of action genre movies and along big names of Hollywood? Not bad for new “It” guy/boy, Jai Courtney – an addition of Aussies who make big in Hollywood.
Done with Western film, today feasted on the Asian flavour; partly as to commemorate the Chinese New Year as well! I have always been the fan of Stephen Chow, a great Hong Kong-based Chinese comedian. His comic antics were legends and his films were all hilarious and proved to be box-office such as “Shaolin Soccer”, “Kungfu Hustle”, “CJ7” and many more! This new flick is his directorial piece but sans him as the actor is titled “Journey To The West : Conquering The Demons” with Shu Qi playing leading role. The film loosely narrates the prequel scenes prior to the journey that gathered the Monk Tang and his 3 sidekicks; The Monkey King (Sun Wukong), The Sex-Maniac Pig Devil (Zhu Bajie) & River Devil (Friar Sha).
Shu Qi as the bandit queen who felt in love with Monk Tang.
Sun Wukong getting angry!
Sun Wukong teaching Shu Qi’s character how to dance seductively to attract the Sex-Maniac Pig Devil.
I have always been fascinated by the legendary story of “Journey To The West”; first introduced by the one played by Dicky Cheung (he was so cute and agile as Sun Wukong, no?) and all the mythical creatures and devils encountered throughout the journey to secure the sacred book/scriptures! I remembered there were a lot of devils such as Buffalo Devil, The Fan Princess Devil, The Spider Devil, The White Bone Devil, Scorpion Demoness, and many more! Fascinating tale for me! I love the blend of other cultures embedded in folklore. That expands my horizon!
This was Dicky Cheung’s version of Sun Wukong, The Monkey King in the TVB drama series “Journey To The West”. Don’t you just love him? I thought he suited the agile and energetic Sun Wukong. And his childish face suits the animated mythical creature! His portrayal will always be my No.1 Sun Wukong!
Anyway, I have been laughing all the way throughout this new film!!! Of course, the storyline wasn’t that strong and a little bit fragile but Stephen Chow knows how to inject emotions and comedies within one film! Amazing! I got to laugh and almost overwhelmed at the same time. His magical touch still shows that Stephen Chow is the maestro in Asian comedy films! On whole, I give 4 stars outta 5!
His grey hair is already a lot. I guess one day I will be like him because as I am now at 29 years old, my hair already grow a lot of grey hair. Well, ALLAH SWT is fair. I get some, I lost some, no? Childlike face but with grey hair? Fair deal.
Oh, I love Stephen Chow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (,”)
