Alhamdulillah, today I received a good news! But will recap that later. The focus of this entry will be on Angie’s latest flick, “Maleficent”! A re-telling of the Brothers Grimm & Tchaikovsky’s classic made popular by Disney’s 1959 animated feature, this new adaptation centers around Maleficent, the evil witch who cast dark spell to Aurora, the Sleeping Beauty princess.
Maleficent was the name given by Disney team to the evil witch in the “Sleeping Beauty” classic. I have always found that Maleficent is the most mysterious Disney villain (since I am Disney freak!) but very dark persona. I remembered that I learned the word ‘melancholy’ from the Sleeping Beauty short story book that Mak bought for me when I was little. At that time, I was curious with the word and always pronounced it as ‘melan-cho-li’ (well, what do you expect from a primary schooler with no English-spoken family members? LMAO!). Well it was circa early 1990s.
Angie as the new Maleficent. Dark and mysterious, just like her. I feel connected!
I don’t wanna reveal spoilers. But what I can tell is that the twist of this new adaptation is awesome! Although there were few weak points – draggy scenes with fragile plotline, I could vouch that it is a new breath to the old classic. And Angie really embodies The Maleficent in her as well as Elle Fanning who played the naive Aurora beautifully.
Voiced by Eleanor Audley who also voiced for Lady Tremaine, Cinderella’s stepmother. The originally wicked Mistress of All Evil.
I was quite overwhelmed with the emotions experienced by Maleficent when she was duped by King Stefan during their youthful years (ooops!) and how she was betrayed and the experience of “love first’s kiss” which never was hers. Angie brought the emotions magnificently. I could feel the pain.

Angie is indeed THE Maleficent!! (,”)
