Yes, it is tiring to go back and from from Serendah to Serdang 4 times a week; but every time I enter the class, I am just all immersed with the input and information. I love learning about Communications and I can imagine myself doing this or lecturing about this field in my later life, Insya ALLAH. Anyway, tonight I just had “Integrated Marketing Communication” and I am just so itchy to jot down on the new input I just knew; enlightened by my lecturer, Dr. Hamisah Zahrah Hasan, during her lecture.
She was explaining on the types of “Tools of Marketing Communications” when she came across ‘Public Relations’ as one of the tools. To illustrate the impact that can be potentially caused by ‘Public Relations’ if harnessed appropriately, she cited a case of “fake testimony given by a 15 years old Kuwait girl” in 1990 to the American Congress and it was shot via live telecast and successfully gained the sympathy of American citizens; until the real gist was out of the bag! Wow!! I was blown away by that. In 1990, I was in kindergarten so naturally I wouldn’t know much about it but I did remember the chaotic Gulf War in 1992 (I was in Standard 2!) as I could recall the lines read by the newscaster in news “Dunia Jam 10”. And as I am also a historical freak and this has something to do with communication as well, I became quite excited! So, I Googled (yes, in the class; and later verified that with my lecturer about the information!) and I found information about this!
The Gulf War.
Apparently, it was said that in order to seek ‘approval and sympathy’ from the American society, The Kuwaiti Government had launched a plan called “Citizens For A Free Kuwait” and also to combat the occupancy of Iraq in Kuwait. With the American military “aiding” the Kuwait, it was crucial that this action was to be ‘blessed’ by the American Society and the best way to be granted that permission was via obtaining ‘sympathy’ from the American society! Outrageous, isn’t it?
“Nurse Nayirah”, the supposed Kuwaiti nurse who witnessed Iraqis “atrocities” by taking out 300 babies out from the incubators. The fake testimony managed to garnered sympathy. Apparently it was said that she was paid by CIA.
So, a consultant called Hill & Knowlton was hired and asked the daughter of the Kuwait ambassador to America to play the role as the “Nurse Nayirah” who apparently had witnessed horrible acts caused by the Iraqi militants and the most outrageous claims were that these Iraqi soldiers had taken more than 300 babies out from the incubators in the hospitals and let the supposed babies to die!! Now, when I watching the video, this ‘Nayirah’ was so convincing (man, she was a good actress even at the age of 15 years old!) that she cried and sobbed while reading out the pre-composed text!
Her real name was Nijirah Al-Sabah; the daughter of Kuwaiti Ambassador to America. No wonder she had the American slang!!!
This event could be vouched as a ‘one-way permission ticket’ by the American society for the American military to ‘aid’ the Kuwaiti Government against the supposed ‘evil’ Iraqi militant! Furthermore, the story was mentioned by American politicians for so many times and even President Bush Sr. kept using the propaganda to align it with the mission to interfere with the Gulf War!!!!! BUT, a New York Times journalist named John McArthur decided to investigate the real dirt and exposed the secret. In fact, ‘Nayirah’ was paid by the CIA and even inducted to an acting class so that the “performance would be moving”!!!!
President George W. Bush, Sr.
I guess you guys can check the abundant information via The Net to know more. But seriously, with this incident that really happened; I can draw 2 conclusions :-
- Communications; in this matter; Public Relations IS A POWERFUL TOOL to evoke and to play with human’s emotions;
- Propaganda and political agenda-beneath-the-surface REALLY EXIST! They are not just some Hollywood’s fabrications. And that lead us to another question – Could MH370 & MH17 actually faced the same scenario? Manned by CIA and American Government? Why?
Bravo! What a sterling performance, staged by a 15 years old in front of public!! She should have won an Oscar!
In the end, the clean beautiful world is controlled by dirty filthy-minded people, isn’t it? They couldn’t care less about the innocent lives claimed by their lies. They just want to win politics. Sigh.
See for yourself. The lies narrated by the Best Actress, “Nurse Nayirah”. The scene that catapulted the Gulf War to another catastrophic level.
