I have to say that the decision to have that solo trip last week to The Settlement Hotel in Melaka (REFER to https://undomiel84.wordpress.com/2016/04/03/battling-mental-depression-with-self-serenity-notes-of-my-travel-the-settlement-hotel-melaka/) had positive impact.
The majestic frontal facade of The Pines, Melaka at Pengkalan Rawa.
I felt myself rejuvenated when I began the routine as school teacher on that Monday. And what’s more, I received an email from a potential university asking me to send them a brief proposal (which I already did as I worked my ass-off going to and fro from Batang Kali to UPM for 3 nights; just to get the academia vibe as well as the good location to prepare a proposal); which is still a premature thing for me to dish about but it flickers back the fire in my life! Not to mention that Blast From The Past has been trying to reconnect (you think you can come and go as you please? It’s charming really but you are now a secondary. My PhD proposal is my priority, God Bless!). On whole, this whole week has been a good positive rebound for me. Isn’t it ironic?
The beds, the living room and the pantry as well as the couch. Spacious!
On Thursday night, Kakak messaged me saying that she wanted to have a weekend retreat just to unwind herself and de-stressing herself from the chaotic overloaded work at the office! Initially I was reluctant because I already went there last week and my financial ledger for this month has been quite rocky (I need to pay for the Cukai Pintu & Tanah as well as the mileage car service! Yikes!). But then…what the heck, right? I deserve to give myself a treat!
On the 8th floor. A swimming pool as well as playground with artificial grass. You can relax reading newspapers on it – if you don’t mind children running around frantically! LMAO!
So on Saturday morning, I paid a visit to JRD Batang Kali (opposite my housing estate) just to show my support to both my colleagues, Teacher Halina & Teacher Suganthi who were there for Choral Speaking Competition (this year, I don’t do the coaching! Hehe!) and then sped to Putrajaya. From there, we pushed to Melaka.
Rejuvenate your mind. It is OK to once a while lavish yourself.
It was really scorching hot! I never really thought of The Pines when I was scouting for hotel for my last week’s solo retreat (but I didn’t regret of spending night at The Settlement Hotel. It was therapeutic). Kakak is always savvy at finding places to travel with worthy-pricing. Really, the room was so spacious with its couch, gigantic see-through window as well as a pantry with sink – all for RM247 inclusive of GST. We could have just shared room because we thought the room would be mediocre – but I got my own room separated from Kakak, Abang Zam and Raess.
A view from 8th floor. You could see the Melaka River Cruise boat at the jetty! For tourists, you can purchase the tickets at the hotel counter. I, however opted not to go because I have been on it for several times! Haha!
It was very relaxing as so happened that the music station played inside the room was of MIX. fm. Listening to the 80s and 90s songs while fantasizing yourself living in a New York apartment with blue yonder skyscrapers vista – well, Melaka could be New York, no? All it takes is to have skyscrapers and tall buildings to assuage the fantasy! LMAO!
The unique stall namely Seri Erra Roti John with its Old Malay discography and cinematography images. I got so excited! Haha! I am a history and artifact fan!
We didn’t really do any much tourism sight-seeing because we just stayed in hotel to rejuvenate ourselves with the different vibe from homes. I have to say that going to new places sometimes breathe new air to your spirits. At night, Abang Zam and I stumbled upon this Penangite Mamak-style shop but actually a stall with Asam Pedas specialty (Malaccan favorite dish! I am not really a fanatic but I can eat just to fill my stomach) called Seri Erra Roti John. But since I am not a fan of Roti John, we didn’t order that. What I want to share in this blog is actually the unique inner decoration which centers on Old Malay retro discography! You could see frames of Old Malay artistes such as Saloma, P.Ramlee, Zaiton, Saadiah as well as the 70s stars like A.Ramlee and I just learned that we also had the Malaysian version of The Beatles called “The Bateks”!!! WOW! I did my own Google search and I found that the full name of the group was “Alina & The Bateks” (REFER to https://ms.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumpulan_The_Bateks). Amazing! As I am also an Old Malay cinematography and discography aficionado, I found these very ENTHRALLING! You guys can check the stall at its FB page (REFER to https://www.facebook.com/pages/Seri-Erra-Roti-John-Puteri-Erra/517887901689348).
Wow! Our own version of The Beatles! Presenting “Alina & The Bateks”!! Awesome!
The beautiful Saloma, the epitome of Malaysian chanteuse of all time. As well as her husband, P.Ramlee. Love them.
On whole, I could say that staying at The Pines, Melaka was really worthy in terms of money and quality-time. A nice weekend escapade… or maybe, a place to have secret rendezvous? Hahaha! You’ll never know…. (,”).
We always hit here for luncheon when we are at Melaka. At Asam Pedas Selera Kampung. The “Ayam Kampung” were super delicious!!!
A vacation without Selfie is like food without salt and sugar to Shahrill, no? Hahaha! My sister said my men boobs are becoming bigger but I feel my neck is developing more fat folds! Help!!! Huhuhu…Been skipping the active regime due to the El-Nino. Damn…. but I crave for food. Huhu….Selfie is a great way to monitor my physic and facial features.
P/S : Listening to Mix.FM really boosts my spirit with its 80s and 90s songs. Especially the ones from the one and only Alanis Morissette. 90s babies who grew up listening to English songs would have automatically identified with her. Love the song and the lyrics. It speaks my heart, now. Isn’t it ironic that when you are already feeling strong and to stand and slowly emancipating yourself out from depression that someone began to beg and try to persuade you back? Damn you.
He won the lottery and died the next day
It’s a black fly in your Chardonnay
It’s a death row pardon two minutes too late
And isn’t it ironic… don’t you thinkIt’s like rain on your wedding day
It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid
It’s the good advice that you just didn’t take
Who would’ve thought… it figuresMr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
“Well isn’t this nice…”
And isn’t it ironic… don’t you think
Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
When you think everything’s okay and everything’s going right
And life has a funny way of helping you out when
You think everything’s gone wrong and everything blows up
In your face
A traffic jam when you’re already late
A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
It’s like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It’s meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife
And isn’t it ironic…don’t you think
A little too ironic…and, yeah, I really do think…
