Today as in 9th November 2016, Donald Trump is the future 45th President of USA. This is an important event although it happens not in our shores as America is the most powerful nation in the world (whether you want to admit or not!) and any political or economical ripple in that region would surely affect the whole world. What do you know; an unlikely political tramp is savouring his triumph on the throne?!
It is quite an interesting situation as Donald Trump was an underdog in politics, a laughing stock in social media as well as being portrayed in various parodies – sure, he is a wealthy tycoon with interesting lifestyle that is appealing to the Pop Culture aficionados (Ivana & Ivanka Trump; “The Apprentice”) – but will he able to be the No.1 Man in the world who controls The Oval Office & Air Force One? In comparison to Hilary Clinton who is a seasoned politician and with the experiences of serving the USA as an ex-First Lady as well as the Secretary of State, Donald Trump was clearly out of the league and his endeavours in politics was almost Nil! On top of that, it was apparent that Clinton domineered all 3 presidential debates (26th September; 9th October & 19th October) whereas Trump was more of a “spoilt brat-who-used-his-temper-rather-than-diplomacy”! With Clinton getting personal endorsements from the Obamas themselves and various celebrities, it then seemed that Donald Trump’s public image was not getting any better and unlikely to win the presidential votes.
Now, this was where the turning points happened.
Presidential debate.
On March 2015, Clinton was accused of using personal email account to maneuver “highly classified emails that were very sensitive”. Clinton stoically denied the accusation and unfortunately, the incident glossed her 2016 presidential campaign as on July 2016, FBI described Clinton to being “extremely careless” but suggested that no charges were to be taken against her. It was unfortunate that the investigations were held in an untimely period; it was on October 2016 that FBI suggested to “looking into newly discovered emails that may be pertinent to the case” but only on 6th November that it was said that Clinton was completely discharged from the allegation. Nevertheless, damages were done as Donald Trump vehemently used this to deteriorate Clinton in his presidential campaigns.
As for Trump himself, he was also dragged into some controversies which mostly involved sexual affiliations – a few women accused Trump committed sexual misconducts against them and Trump denied all the allegations. Nonetheless, of course these did not hurt Trump’s campaign although his morale was somehow questionable at that point of time – but whether you like it or not, we are living in a patriarchal world where men could get away easily with sexual misdemeanors and that unfortunately would only added to his “sexual prowess” image, – as long as the sexual rendezvouses were not lethal. Do you agree? On top of that, Trump was known for his Casanova lifestyle long before he became a presidential candidate; so I guess these allegations did not jeopardize his image as much as the ones faced by Clinton!
“I am King Trump. I can touch anyone’s Va-jay-jay!”.
Donald Trump is an interesting scenario because he began as the jester but eventually, he wears the crown on the throne. And there was also Melania Trump, a Slovenian model who married Trump (I guess he just loved Europeans – Ivana Trump?) and often cited by media as “gold digger”. Melania was portrayed as bimbo who copied Michelle Obama’s speech and definitely lacked the aura of a stoic political female figure. The analogy was like putting a Barbie among the Living Dead dolls! Haha! Well despite whatever people say, she definitely has the last laugh. After all, she bore Trump an heir, a son; and she now will be the consort of 45th President of USA; a Slovenian immigrant could be the Queen of The World – well, America is The Land Of The Dreams, isn’t it? Haha!
Melania in a propaganda / public relation campaign photoshoot – to accentuate her American patriotism. Everything political has a lot of connection with Communication, you know.
Donald Trump was also controversial as he cited Hispanics as those who usually caused fracas and suggested temporary ban against Moslems due to terrorism (it was then reported that it was merely for the countries identified as terrorists). Both Hispanics and Moslems were outraged by this and quite distraught by Donald Trump’s accusations. But now; all we can do is to wait and see. After all, The Trumps never shied away from the limelight but this time around, they must be proud to say that “The World Is Ours”, no?
The map. Looks like Southern region really supported Donald Trump BUT he actually lost at his own place, in NEW YORK!
Against all odds, the unlikely political tramp is savouring his triumph, although the Twitter is flooding with hashtags such as “HeIsNotMyPresident! Hmm….but aren’t these Americans went out to vote? Haha!
Who do you think delivered better manifestos? Decide based on these presidential debate! Haha!
