Who is Muhammad SAW? The man who is closely affiliated to Islam and is revered by many Moslems around the world. Yet, he is not an immortalized entity. He is no more than a mere man. The only difference between him and the other people was that he was chosen as the Messenger of God, hence the status was elevated and is integrated with the essence of “Maksum” (pure, free from sin). But, he was just still, a man of flesh and blood. Not to be compared or to share the place of The Almighty, ALLAH SWT; the highest hierarchy in Moslem’s believes.
Islam believes that Muhammad SAW is the last prophet that was bestowed revelations by ALLAH SWT. Islam believes that there could be hundreds or thousands prophets since the beginning of time; but there were only 25 Messengers Of ALLAH SWT, from the days of Adam A.S. until Muhammad SAW. The preaching to the oneness of ALLAH SWT has been the essence since the commencement of time. Moslems do not worship Muhammad SAW nor the Black House of Kaabah (which is merely a Focal Point of “Qiblah”). Moslems respect both entities but worshiping is merely for ALLAH SWT, the Almighty.
Makkah, the Qiblah (Focal Point of Guide).
The genealogical lineage of Muhammad SAW could be uprooted back from the tribe of Quraisy. The tribe was said to be a supreme tribe famous for its trading skills and leadership, in comparison to other tribes scattered around Hijaz and Makkah. I remembered having this one book called “Sejarah Rasulullah SAW” by Abdul Hamid Judah As-Sahhar which recorded the genealogical histories of Prophet SAW from his great-great grandfather, Qusai ibn Kilab; and the tapestry lineage narrated down; one by one. Very interesting, indeed. So, I would like to recall smithereens of the historical fragments about Prophet Muhammad SAW that I could remembered from the book; in this very entry.
The book “Sejarah Rasulullah SAW” (The History of Rasulullah SAW) written by Abdul Hamid Juddah As-Sahhar. Ayah bought for my sister and I in 1994. It has been nearly 20 years! (,”)
Quraish tribe – way before the arrival of Islam.
Abdul Muttalib, who was Prophet Muhammad SAW’s grandfather was named Syaibah (which means white/snow due to his white-hair). The name “Abdul Muttalib” arisen due to the fact he had lived with his uncle named Muttalib and he was assumed as “the boy servant” (‘Abdul’) of his uncle when he first arrived in Makkah. Abdul Muttalib was a very prominent Quraisy leader and was respected by the people of Hijaz. After the death of Prophet Muhammad SAW’s parents, he was taken care by Abdul Muttalib until he was 8 years old.
The love of a grandfather to grandson.
When Muhammad SAW was 25 years old, he was asked to work with a beautiful widow who was also a shrewd entrepreneur. By that time, he was known to be as a good trader himself. The beautiful widow whose name was Khadijah Khuwailid was a respectable figure among the Quraish, known as At-Thahirah (The Pure One), Ameerat-Quraish (Princess of Quraish) & Khadija Al-Kubra (Khadijah, The Great). Her servant girl named Mysarah had been observing Muhammad SAW as she accompanied the entourage to Syam (Syria) to do trading businesses and reported to Khadijah once they got back. To cut it short, she was besotted by the stories of his charisma told by Mysarah that she herself sent her friend, Nafisa to hint Muhammad SAW about her intention. Khadijah remained his faithful wife; as he was to her until her death in the Year Of Sorrow after 24 years of marriage (the re-marriage ONLY occurred after her demise).
The love of Prophet Muhammad SAW to Khadijah R.A. remained intact. He remained monogamous to her until her demise. His constant remembrance to her had caused jealousy to Aisha R.A. It was quoted that :-
“Once the Prophet mentioned Khadija near Aisha, Aisha responded: “She was not but a such and such of an old lady, and Allah replaced her with a better one for you.” He replied: “Indeed Allah did not grant me better than her; she accepted me when people rejected me, she believed in me when people doubted me, she shared her wealth with me when people deprived me, and Allah granted me children only through her.”
Archangel Jibril A.S. (Gabriel) came to Prophet Muhammad SAW when he was 40 years old. It was the time for revelation in the Cave of Hira’. At the beginning, it was a difficult time because people were too consumed with worshiping idols and polytheism. A “Hijrah” or an exodus from Makkah to Yathrib/Medina happened in 622. People of Medina welcomed Prophet Muhammad SAW and that catapulted Medina as the first Moslem country/region/sovereign where Islamic laws and life were being practiced as wholly.
Hijrah.
Prophet Muhammad SAW had 6 children with Saidatina Khadijah & 1 son with Mariah Al-Qibthiyah. All the sons died when they were still infants :-
- Qasim – son with Khadijah;
- Abdullah – son with Khadijah;
- Ibrahim – son with Mariah Al-Qibthiyah;
- Zainab – daughter with Khadijah;
- Ruqayyah – daughter with Khadijah;
- Ummu Kalthum – daughter with Khadijah;
- Fatimah Al-Zahra – daughter with Khadijah
Now, it was said that the descendants of Hashemite Kingdoms of Jordan are the familial lineage from Bani Hashim of Quraish, which was Prophet Muhammad SAW’s clan. It was said that, the Hashemite Kingdom was connected to Prophet Muhammad SAW via Fatimah Al-Zahra’s son – Hassan. Nonetheless, when we see the way the Hashemite Kingdom royal families portraying themselves…..Wallahualam.
The reigning ruler of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. King Abdullah & his consort, Queen Rania.
And what about the usage of “Syed”, “Syeikh”, “Syarifah”, “Sayyid”, “Sharif” as the Gene Marker that one with prefix names such as those are of the direct line from Prophet Muhammad SAW? And what about the abundant population of those in India, Pakistan and South Asia and not to say in South East Asia ourselves especially in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei?? Wallahualam. I have no definite answers although I do hear once a while that these people claim themselves to be the pure ‘direct line’ from Muhammad SAW. Wallahualam. Only ALLAH SWT knows the answer.
The family tree. From Prophet Muhammad SAW to the reigning Hashemite Kingdom Of Jordan. Wallahualam.
Whatever it is, let us all say Salawat (phrase of praises) to Prophet Muhammad SAW, the last prophet for the lost souls. Amin.
